"Can I create artwork for your special space?"
Sonya Else is the owner of SoulHeartArt Designs. She is a textile artist who lives and works in Rochester, Victoria, Australia with her husband and three daughters. Her work 'Flowers from the Heart', has been published in Down Under Quilts.
I like people to see whatever they can in my work. After dyeing a fabric, I myself am often suprised by the images and shapes that emerge.
I also like to try different colour combinations and fabrics. When I go outside or for walks I see all sorts of colours that go together. The mountains, the forest and the beach ... all of these natural environments uplift and inspire me.

On our family holiday at the start of 2009 - with my husband and three daughters - I found a lot of inspiration in Apollo Bay and Skene's Creek. The view from our villa in Apollo Bay overlooked the sea and this inspired me to paint the sunset. Then, to my surprise, the image that I now use as my logo emerged, hanging between the sky and the ocean.
I also have a heart for Marysville. In 2006 I loved walking in the bush there and was inspired by the waterfalls, the forests, the tall trees, looking up into the canopies ... I particularly loved the Stephenson Falls.
Meditation is very important to my art - just going into my mind and thoughts and concentrating on what's there. I love to play with the shapes of leaves and flowers - just to see what emerges ...
I get a lot of pleasure from the feel and the look of textiles and quilting and the sense of creating something that will be an inspiration and a joy to the person who owns it.
One of the highlights of 2005 was having my quilt pattern, 'Flowers from the heart' published in Down Under Quilts. I sometimes wonder who has worked with that pattern, how their quilts have turned out and where they are now!

My passion is to create individual works of art that give lasting pleasure, for my clients' and customers' special spaces.
For example, several therapists have asked me to design massage table covers that would reflect the type of spiritual work that they do. Each therapist's hand dyed natural cotton mattress cover came out differently, based on their own unique approach to their work. For another therapist I created pure silk hand dyed throws using different combinations of chakra colours.
I'd would really like to hear from you if you have some ideas about artwork I could create for your special spaces ...
PS I like to think that my work refreshes and uplifts the spirit. I'd love to know what you see in the colours and patterns ...
