A spiritual language of the soul

"I see Sonya's art as a new spiritual language of the soul. The ego can't read it but the heart recognizes it. It opens us to and allows us to access new information about the beauty of spirit in non-verbal ways. I can see the hugeness of this beauty and the creations of spirit are just magnificent. There is an incredible amount of love in this artwork."

An interview with Sonya

Q. How would you describe your work?

My work is art from the heart, made with passion from the soul. It’s individual and made with quality materials such as cotton, corduroy, denim and silk.

Q. Your art expresses itself in a variety of ways but there do seem to be recurring themes. Where do you find your ideas and inspiration?

My ideas and inspirations come from my heart, my mind and my environment. Sometimes from a combination of all three. I think this is what gives me unique works of art.

Q. What is about the environment that inspires you?

When I’m out walking or just enjoying the outdoors, I store lots in my memory bank and these memories come to me when I’m actually doing my creations. The more I do, the more inspiration comes to me.

Q. I notice you like to use circular forms and embedded images. What's that about?

I love to use Mandalas in some of my work. Mandalas can be very healing to the mind. I also love to use lots of colours and mix them together. The mixture of colours produces lots of good feelings and emotions in me and I hope this has the same effect people who see my art. I also like to work with the chakra colour system.
